Nekyia: What Happens ‘After’

What comes after life?
Is there something inbetween?
Is there a way back?
A feeling of depression when the end is here
Is death a journey with no return?
Why is there an end?
What makes life longer?

These are some of the questions that we will attempt to answer at 16 Fokionos Negri on Thursday 7th June at 8 p.m.

Kostas Georgoussopoulos, academic, writer, theatre critic, translator and poet-lyricist, and Chronis Botsoglou an important Greek artist talk about Nekyia, Nostalgia and Nostos. Nostalgia for Nostos brings Odysseus to Ades to talk to Teiresias and to the other deceased. They talk about the melancholy for the after-life that haunts the living and the nostalgia for life that haunts the souls of the dead.

Thanassis Lalas will coordinate the discussion. The audience will have the opportunity to enjoy paintings from Chronis Botsoglou’s Personal Nekyia.

In Conversation with Alecos Levidis

On Thursday 30th March at 7 p.m. Dionysis Kapsalis, Director of the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation, and Nicolas Paissios, collaborator of the Benaki Museum, will talk with the artist about his work. This event is related to the exhibition Alecos Levidis. Familiar Place, Familiar Time: Two Paintings from the Sotiris Felios Collection, with their Preparatory Studies.

Re-visit: Painter Kostas Papanikolaou

On Wednesday 18th January at 8 p.m., Professor of Art History (University of Crete) Evgenios Matthiopoulos will present Kostas Papanikolaou’s oeuvre.

A discussion will follow with the painter and the exhibition curator and art historian Dr Tatiana Spinari-Pollali.

A Discussion with Giorgos Rorris

On Wednesday 24th February, at 8 p.m., the art historian and exhibition curator Elizabeth Plessa and the journalist of “Ta Nea” newspaper, Mary Adamopoulou, will be conducting a discussion with Giorgos Rorris at 16 Fokionos Negri, on his works Blue Alexandra and Yanna, included in the 16 Fokionos Negri show. Taking the procedure of the creation of these two paintings as a starting point, the discussion will attempt to unveil wider aspects of Giorgos Rorris’s oeuvre. This event is related to the exhibition The Sotiris Felios Collection. Giorgos Rorris: The Hidden Image.

Margarita Pournara in Conversation with Tassos Mantzavinos

On Sunday 10th January at 1 p.m., journalist of Kathimerini Newspaper, Margarita Pournara, and Tassos Mantzavinos will talk about the exhibition and the painter’s work. The exhibition curator and art historian Dr Tatiana Spinari-Pollali will give the audience a guided tour prior to the talk at 12.15 p.m. The event is related to the exhibition Tassos Mantzavinos: Mnesipemona.

Nekyia: Chronis Botsoglou-Takis Chatzopoulos-Yorghos Kouroupos-Yorghos Veltsos

Nekyia, like other archetypical stories and narrations, becomes inspiration for artists.

On Wednesday 4th June at 8 p.m., the Sotiris Felios Collection presents “Nekyia” a film produced by Takis Chatzopoulos based on Chronis Botsoglou’s Personal Nekyia. Excerpts from “Odyssey” by Yorghos Kouroupos are heard during the film.

A discussion among painter Chronis Botsoglou, director Takis Chatzopoulos, composer Yorghos Kouroupos, professor Yorghos Veltsos and the audience will follow.

Talking about Time and Memory

On Wednesday 18th December at 7.30 p.m., the exhibition curator Alexandra Koroxenidi will discuss with painters Alekos Levidis and Giorgos Rorris about the representation of time and memory in painting and other traits of time. The discussion will be complemented with a slideshow presentation. This event is related to the exhibition Pictorial References on Memory and Time.

Book Presentation: Michel Fais “Kterismata”

“The other Arcadia” Foundation and the Patakis Publications invite you to the presentation of the new novel by Michel Fais entitled “Kterismata” (offerings).

Literary critic Vangelis Chatzivassiliou will present the book. A discussion with the author, Michel Fais, will follow.

Actors Maria Kallimani and Alexia Kaltsiki will read excerpts of the book.

Erotic-themed paintings from the Sotiris Felios Collection will be exhibited on the day of the event, a presentation curated by Michel Fais.

Eroticism & Pornography

Parallel events programme “Wednesdays at 16 Fokionos Negri” presents its final event this Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Writer Thanassis Valtinos and painter Chronis Botsoglou discuss with the audience about Eroticism and Pornography and Spyros Sakkas reads an extract from Andreas Embirikos’s “Octana”.
